So this Friday, some friends are putting on a Zombie Prom. As my wife and I are doubling with our best couple friends, we came up with a theme. My bestie an I are both very into rockabilly. So we both found dresses that jive, organized our spouses outfits, now I just need some hair and makeup help. So I come to all you beauties. I need pictures for inspiration. PLEASE?!?

Make-up in the 1940's- powder and rouge [Jan. 8th, 2012|03:06 pm]

I love reading make-up tricks from past times and I don't think I'm the only one. The look in the 1940's were rather simple, subtle eyes and strong cheeks and lips, but of course there were a lot of do's and don't when it came to make-up technique. This post and the next will take material from a Swedish beauty book from 1946, Skönhet by Vivan Huber. It's written with the Swedish woman in mind, but trends and fashions are similar to the rest of Europe, as well as US, of the time. Today's post will be on powder and rouge, the next one will cover lips and eyes.

The chapter on make-up begins with stating that making sure she is as beautiful as possible is one of the most important things for a woman to strive for and make-up is an excellent aid. Not too any excess, but if it's applied tastefully and correctly, then make-up is always a good thing. When choosing colours it is important to consider several things. Time of day- one can wear more make-up in the evenings. Dark women can wear more make-up as well. One should also consider ones age, shape of face and colour on clothing.

Ruby Woo on blondes [Jul. 2nd, 2010|10:34 pm]

orngesodalampst
Hey guys, I've never posted here before, but I've been a long-time member and watcher. I have a question about the Ruby Woo lipstick, that many people recommend. I've got rather light blonde hair (not like white-blonde or anything) and medium skin tone (more on the lighter side), and I'm a bit hesitant to use the Ruby Woo on myself. I'm afraid it would look really tacky on me since most bright red lipsticks do, even with liner. Can anyone shead any light on my problem? Do you think it looks fine on blondes? I just don't want to buy it and not be able to use it, since it's so expensive...

Hello All!

The second issue of Zelda : The Magazine of the Vintage Nouveau has arrived! We have some amazing features in this issue...the cover girl is Doris Eaton Travis- the last living Ziegfeld Girl! She was in the Ziegfeld Follies from 1918-1920, and I was lucky enough to interview her for Zelda! (It was truly an amazing conversation...you will love it!) There is a lot of great inspiration for vintage makeup throughout this issue- we have so many gorgeous ladies in it! Here is a list of the features in the current issue:

A True Classic: Robert Osborne (interview), Marsha Hunt: On Golden Era Fashion (interview) , Cocktails : The Red Velvet Sling: Dead Men Tell No Tales, But Their Spirits Do!; Pincurling Tutorial, A Dress Shoe for the Man of Action (in 1922), Illustrations by Fyodor Pavlov, Lawrence Gullo, and Joslyn Zoe, Gelber & Manning, Vicky Butterfly : Vintage Burlesquer, Sage Advice : Mister Burton, Vintage City 101: Los Angeles, On the Town (vintage event photos)
